Marshmallow Cocoa Mug Pops/Hot Cocoa Stirrers

These little mugs of hot cocoa on a stick are a really adorable addition to the holiday season. They are super easy to make, using only marshmallows and some melted chocolate or frosting and decorated with sprinkles. You can eat them off of the stick, or even stir them into your hot cocoa!

Hot Cocoa Marshmallow Pops/Stirrers

You will need
  • popsicle sticks/craft sticks
  • marshmallows
  • melted chocolate or chocolate frosting (OR try white chocolate mixed with espresso powder for espresso flavor)
  • white jimmie sprinkles for the "mini marshmallows" (optional)
  • vanilla frosting for the whipped cream swirl dusted with cocoa powder (optional)
  • festive confetti sprinkles to decorate your marshmallow mugs

Directions

Push the Popsicle sticks through the flat bottom of the marshmallow.

Create the handles for your mug by cutting a marshmallow into 4 slices. Cut each slice in half and cut out the center, creating a "C" shape as shown below using a small round cookie cutter, or even a bottle cap!

Make 2 little slits on the side of the mug to push the handle into.

Using melted chocolate or chocolate frosting, add your "cocoa" to the tops of your mug, making sure to leave a rim around the edge of the top of the marshmallow.

Break up white jimmie sprinkles to resemble tiny little marshmallows and place on top of your chocolate.

Alternatively, you can create a swirl of "whipped cream" out of vanilla frosting, using a small star tip. I used Wilton tip #18. Sprinkle cocoa powder or cinnamon on top if desired.

I can't decide which one I like more! What is your favorite, the whip topped or the mini sprinkle marshmallows?!

I added some cute sprinkles to create a little holiday design on my mugs, and used pepermint candy sprinkles to put on top.

How about some adorable real itty bitty marshmallows?!

I used a red sprinkle from some rainbow jimmies to look like a little red stirrer straw!

You can also use edible markers to draw a design on your mugs to really customize them for gift giving. I love giving them along with an inexpensive festive mug and a packet of hot cocoa!

Even stir them into your cocoa for a marshmallow-ey swirl! You can individually wrap your pops in clear plastic bags tied with ribbon, or you can create a display for your pops. To create a display that your pops can stand upright in, take a block of Styrofoam and wrap it in festive wrapping paper or tissue paper. Push the bottom of each stick into the styrofoam for guests to easily grab and enjoy.

Even use them as a a cute gift topper!

Even create some cappuccinos using melted white chocolate mixed with espresso powder instead of chocolate!
