Super easy, "cheaters" Dulce De Leche made from a can of sweetened condensed milk.
This sauce is caramely, sweet, ooey gooey and delicious. It if great on anything from apple slices and fruit, cheesecakes, or pastries and churros.
The super simple dulce de leche comes together by putting a can of sweetened condensed milk in a bot of simmering water, and all the magic happens inside the can. The longer it simmers, the thicker and darker it gets and the more intense the caramel flavor becomes.
You can thin it with a little milk or cream for drizzling, or keep it thick for spreading.
Even top my churro cupcakes with it!
Yield: 1 can (may make up to 3-4 cans at once)
Ingredients
- 1 (14-ounce) can of sweetened condensed milk, label removed*
- milk or cream to thin, if desired
*may use original or fat free versions
Directions
Place the can (label removed) on its side in a large pot and fill with water, making sure the water level is at least 2 inches above the can. Bring to a simmer over high heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 2-3hours, turning the can occasionally. The longer you cook it, the thicker and darker/more caramely it becomes. (Make sure the water level stays above the can, adding boiling water as necessary). Remove the can from the water and set on a wire rack to cool to room temperature. Once completely cool to room temperature, open can. Thin the sauce with milk or cream if desired.
