White Cake Mix (plus ingredients listed)
Food Coloring (color/colors of your choice)
Buttercream Frosting (any flavor)
8 Ounce Mason Jars
Prepare cake batter as directed and divide into four small bowls.
Choose food coloring(s) of your choice and add a small amount at a time to three of the four bowls until you have created three distinguishable shades of your selected color, a light shade, medium shade, and dark shade, and white. You can also choose to use different colors to match any holiday or occasion.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray the inside of your jars with non-stick spray.
Spoon a few tablespoons of batter into each jar, alternating between each color until your jar is only half full. Do not fill your jar to too high with batter or it will rise and spill over the sides of jar when baking, creating a big mess. Remember, you will need room for the frosting so the cake should not rise to the top of the jar anyway.
Place jars in a baking pan for easy removal from oven and to catch any batter overspill. Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Cool completely.
Pipe or spoon frosting on top of your cooled cake, and top with coordinating colored sprinkles. You can even tint your frosting to match your cake layers.
