Everyone love a warm spiced, fluffy cinnamon roll with ooey gooey glaze on top... but when you are looking to cut the calories and opt for a healthier alternative to indulge in, this is what I always turn to! The sprinkling of cinnamon sugar melts in the toaster to mimic a cinnamon roll filling and the little drizzle of simple glaze on top really helps to nip the craving in the bud and I get to enjoy a single-serving plate of deliciousness all to myself, without the guilt! What could be better?!
It is so simple to make, too! You just butter your bread and add the cinnamon/sugar mixture, you can add toppings like raisins, chopped nuts, blueberries, etc. if desired and then broil in the toaster (or use the toast setting if desired) until toasty and sugar begins to melt.
Drizzle on your glaze.
And there you have your super duper simple cinnamon roll toast. You can even use whole grain toast for an even healthier alternative!
Ingredients
2 slices of bread
1-2 tablespoons of butter or margarine
1/4 cup white sugar
1 1/2-2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1-2 tablespoons toppings (raisins, chopped nuts, blueberries, etc.), optional
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1-2 teaspoons milk or water
Directions
Spread butter over the tops of each slice of bread. Combine the sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle 2 tablespoons on top of each slice of buttered bread. Add toppings if desired. Place in the toaster oven* and broil (or use the toast setting if desired) until toasty and sugar begins to melt. Place powdered sugar and milk in a small plastic bag and massage together until you have a nice consistence for icing. Snip off the corner of the bag and pipe on top of your toast (you can also make the glaze in a bowl and spread on top of toast, instead).
*You may alternatively use a skillet on the stove-top over med-low heat or multiply the recipe to create a large batch and broil on a cookie sheet in the oven.
