How To Soften & Properly Measure Brown Sugar

First, break up any clumps with a fork. If your brown sugar has hardened simply place a damp paper towel over the sugar and microwave for a few seconds at a time until softened again.

Gently, pack brown sugar down into your measuring cup/spoon.

Drag a flat edge across the top of the measuring cup/spoon to level off the top.

Release sugar into your mixing bowl. It should retain it's shape but not be too packed, so it doesn't easily fall apart when stirred.
